After graduating from the Greek Engineering Marine Academy in 1975, Themelis joined the Merchant Marine as
an engineer, sailing on Tankers, Bulk Carriers and Ro-Ro’s he rose to the position of Chief Engineer. In 1984 he joined
the offshore drilling ship “Tenaron” (Owned by Tropic Drilling Exploration Ltd, Houston), where he served as Junior Chief
Engineer, and later on as Senior Chief Engineer. In 1987 he was promoted as Superintendent Engineer based in Victoria,
Brazil. Themelis was responsible for supervising all drill ship repairs, maintenance, dry docking, class surveys and shore
based facilities. In 1991 he joined Bernuth Shipping Lines in Miami, Florida as Technical Manager, where he oversaw the
technical management of ten container vessels and their container terminals and equipment. In 1996 Themelis returned
to Greece to join Brave Maritime as Superintendent Engineer with responsibility for five bulk carriers. In 1999, Brave
Maritime established Stealth Maritime as a subsidiary company, which operated tanker vessels. Until the end of 2000 he
was in charge of technical management for two Aframax Tankers.
In 2001 he joined Dane Sea Line as Technical Manager. Dane operated 3 Passenger R/R vessels in service to
the Greek islands. Additionally to all technical management including spares, stores and classification Themelis was
responsible for insurance and claims. During this period Themelis gained his certification as a surveyor for the Hellenic
Registry. From 2004 until 2005 Themelis was employed by Fairport Shipping Ltd and Commercial S.A as the Technical
Manager for thirteen refer vessels and two bulk carriers.
In July 2005 he joined an investment venture of tanker barges and tugs in Lagos Nigeria. The project went
ahead; four tugs and six barges were purchased and relocated to Lagos where they are presently operating from offshore
Lagos to the port of Lagos. A management company was established Saje Shipping for which he held the position of
executive Technical Manager.
From October 2006 until joining PetroMed Corporation, Themelis has worked on a consulting basis as a Chief
Engineer and Surveyor for PetroMar Inc. and as a surveyor for Petroleum Cargo surveys, P&I inspections, Oil major preattending
surveys, Cargo claim surveys. Danielle Ship Management, Crown Shipman UK ltd and Bic-Shipping Capital.
